Calvin Graham - Youngest Veteran of World War II

Calvin Graham was the youngest person to serve in World War II and he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 12 in 1942. He was a kid from Texas that was inspired by the death of his cousins in combat. This is what motivated him to join the military at such a young age. Calvin began shaving at the age of eleven. He talked his friends into forging his parents signatures and told his mom he was visiting his grandmother one hundred miles away. John Maag, a seaman who served with Graham told the Chicago Tribune. "They needed to ship out men quickly. We'd suffered a lot of casualties, and the Navy needed to build up its crews." This was one reason he was able to join the Navy so easy. He was assigned to the battleship USS South Dakota and saw heavy action at Guadalcanal. On November 14, 1942 the South Dakota suffered 47 casualties and Calvin suffered wounds along with having his front teeth being knocked out by shrapnel and suffering serious burns. In spite of that he helped many of his wounded comrades. He took belts off of the dead and used them as tourniquets for the living. Calvin stayed up all night giving support and cigarettes to the wounded. A year later the Navy found out his age through his mother and he was arrested. Graham was sent to the brig for three months. He would have remained longer but his sister threatened to go to the newspapers. In May 1943, a year after his enlistment, Calvin was dishonorably discharged and his medals were taken from him along with his Bronze Star, Purple Heart and disability benefits.

At the age of 17 Calvin joined the Marine Corps but fell off a pier breaking his back and was forced to end his military service. Calvin spent the postwar years fighting to have his medals and disability benefits returned. Finally in 1978 his record was cleared and he received an Honorable Discharge. All of his medals were returned minus his Purple Heart. In 1988 a movie was made about him called (Too Young The Hero). President Reagan reinstated his disability payments. He received back pay and some pay for medical expenses, although it did not fully pay back the money he had spent out of pocket over the years. Graham died in 1992 at the age of 62 of heart failure. Two years later his wife was presented his Purple Heart by President Clinton. Besides his Purple Heart and Bronze Star he had also been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze Battle Star device and the WWII Victory Medal.

How The Donkey And The Elephant Became The Symbol of The Democrat And Republican Party

How did the Democratic and Republican Party come to be represented by the symbols of the donkey and the elephant? The 1828 presidential election was one of the most hotly contested political races in American history. John Quincy Adams was running against Andrew Jackson. In 1824 Jackson lost a very close election to Adams. Jackson won 99 votes in the electoral college to Adams 84. Because of the closeness of the vote the election would have to be decided in the House of Representatives. The Speaker of the House, Henry Clay, was also a candidate for president who had placed fourth in the voting. Clay hated Jackson and he gave his support to Adams. As a result Adams was elected president. Adams then named Clay as his Secretary of State. The position of Secretary of State had been a stepping stone to the White House for the last four presidents. Jackson and his supporters accused Adams and Clay of making a "corrupt bargain". This set the stage for the hostility of the 1828 election and the reputation of it being one of the dirtiest campaigns in American history.

Jackson and his supporters called Adams corrupt, spoiled, and a “libertine” – someone who lacked moral restraint, usually in reference to sexual matters. Adams attacked Jackson's military record, violent temper, and his disrespect for authority. The Adams campaign also accused Rachel Jackson of being a bigamist and a whore since she married Jackson while legally married to another man. This was personal to Jackson. He had fought men and even killed a man in a duel defending his wife's honor. The election of 1828 was so personal that it contributed to the death of Rachel of a heart attack on December 22,1828. Just over two months before Jackson was inaugurated. They called Jackson a jack-ass and compared him to a stubborn dumb donkey. Jackson was known for his slogan " Let the people rule". The Adams campaign claimed that if the people ruled a bunch of jackasses would be ruling the country. Jackson saw this as an opportunity to turn the jackass into a positive symbol. In campaign speeches he declared the jackass to be persistent, loyal, and able to carry a heavy load. The jackass also symbolized simplistic virtues, humble origins, and an ode to the common man. This characterized Jackson as the champion of the common man. The donkey continued to be known as the symbol of the Democratic Party because of the 1828 campaign throughout the 1800's.

The elephant as the Republican symbol first appeared in the 1864 election involving Abraham Lincoln and George McClellan. It appeared in a pro-Lincoln newspaper named Father Abraham. Like the mainstream media today it was nothing but political propaganda. A large percentage of news outlets throughout history have been political propaganda. Father Abraham depicted an Elephant with a banner draped over it celebrating Union victories. When a soldier fought in his first battle he would many times say that he had "seen the elephant". The donkey and the elephant were insured a place in history throughout all time in regards to symbolizing the two political parties by Thomas Nast. He was a famous political cartoonist of the late 1800's that popularized the modern conception of Santa Claus. Nast started working for Harpers Weekly in 1861 as a combat artist. In 1862 he introduced his version of Santa Claus. The jolly old fat man in a red suit that we know today. After the war he popularized the donkey and elephant as the symbols of the Democrat and Republican Party in his political cartoons in such a way that would insure their permanence in American political culture for all time.

THE HISTORY OF KETCHUP

Ketchup or Catsup - A little history

Ketchup, or if you prefer catsup, was first recorded as being used to enhance the flavor of food in 544 BC. It was originally made from fermented fish guts. It's original name was k├┤echiap. This product was imported from the East Indies. In the 1690's the British began tampering with the recipe and started calling it catchup. By 1711 they were using the term ketchup. At this time people were using fermented anchovies as it's basic ingredient. Since anchovies were not always available they began using mushrooms and walnuts by the mid 1700's. People also experimented with other ingredients. It wasn't until the early 1800's that tomatoes became the basic ingredient of ketchup. Ketchup also came to America about this time. It is believed that the reason there are two terms, ketchup and catsup, is because ketchup is a higher quality form than catsup. Heinz began selling the two versions in the 1880's. Catsup was less expensive than ketchup.

The Day The Clowns Cried

The Hartford Circus Fire

The Hartford Connecticut Circus Fire was one of the worst fire disasters in United States history. It happened on July 6, 1944. The fire occurred during a performance of the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey circus with a crowd of between 6,000 and 8,000 people. More than 165 people died and 700 were injured. The fire began as a small flame on the southwest sidewall of the tent but quickly spread because of paraffin wax waterproofing of the tent. Many people were burned by melting paraffin. At first it was thought that the fire was started by a carelessly tossed cigarette. Later a man who worked as circus roustabout, Robert Segee, confessed to starting the fire but later recanted his confession. It is believed that the death rate was actually higher than the official count because of poor record keeping. Small children were sometimes not identified and some people were completely incinerated. Free tickets had been handed out and it was believed that many drifters died who would not have been identified anyway.

The following section is from Wikipedia: While many people burned to death, many others died as a result of the ensuing chaos. Though most spectators were able to escape the fire, many people were caught up in the hysteria. Witnesses said some simply ran around in circles trying to find their loved ones, rather than trying to escape from the burning tent. Some escaped but ran back inside to look for family members. Others stayed in their seats until it was too late, assuming that the fire would be put out promptly. Because at least two of the exits were blocked by the chutes used to bring the show's big cats in and out of the tent, people trying to escape could not bypass them. Some died from injuries sustained after leaping from the tops of the bleachers in hopes they could escape under the sides of the tent, though that method of escape ended up killing more than it saved. Others died after being trampled by other spectators, with some asphyxiating underneath the piles of people who fell over each other. Most of the dead were found in piles, some three bodies deep, at the most congested exits. A small number of people were found alive at the bottoms of these piles, protected by the bodies on top of them when the burning big top ultimately fell down. Because of a picture that appeared in several newspapers of sad tramp clown Emmett Kelly holding a water bucket, the event became known as "the day the clowns cried."

The most famous victim was little Miss 1565. For 47 years she lay in a grave identified as Little Miss 1565. Every year on the anniversary of the fire two Hartford detectives placed flowers on her grave. Because the little girl's body was so well preserved investigators were finally able to identify her, with the help of family photos and family members as Eleanor Cook. A little girl of 8 who had attended the circus that day with her mother Mildred and brothers Donald and Edward. They were sitting in the top bleacher near where the fire started. Mildred was badly burned and wrapped in bandages from head to toe but would survive. Donald, the oldest child, became separated but made it home uninjured. Little Edward, who was six, died in the fire and Eleanor was nearly trampled to death in the stampede. She lived for three hours after being taken to the hospital. Even though her body was barely burned she was never identified. Mildred placed a marker next to Edwards grave that read "Eleanor Emily Cook. March 17, 1936--July 6, 1944." The ground beneath it contains no body, but Mildred Cook would plant flowers there to memorialize her daughter for many years.

THE MIGHTY OBAMA HAS SPOKEN

“And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ.” “In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”These were the words spoken by Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast the other day in response to the savage killing of the Jordanian pilot by those pieces of trash called ISIS. Reverend Jeremiah Wright couldn't have said this better. The only difference is that Wright would have shouted the words out in his typical bombastic manner. Obama gave us the pedantic version. I am weary of people trying to justify bad behavior by constantly reminding us of the past sins committed in the name of Christianity, First of all Islam and atheism have killed many more people than those killed in the name of Christianity. Notice that I say in the name of Christianity. Anytime the state and religion join forces you are going to have problems, It is political Islam that is the problem today just like it was political Christianity that caused problems during the crusades. It was political Christianity that caused the problems here in America during the Salem witch trials. The state religion of Massachusetts was Congregationalism. I am not talking about the right of a city to display nativity scenes on government property, or to display the Ten Commandments in a courthouse, or the right to pray before a high school football game. I am talking about when a particular religion is officially recognized by the state. The clergy and church property are supported by the tax dollars of the people. In the case of Islam they even have a religion based legal system called Sharia law.

Slaveowners and the Klan used the Bible to justify slavery and bigotry. We all know what evil can be perpetuated in the name of Christianity. We don't need to be lectured by Obama. Are there still evil people representing themselves as Christians? Absolutely, but why should we be surprised by that? Some of the most evil people in the world are in the church and always have been. Jesus was crucified by the evil people in the church of his time and he called them out on numerous occasions.

New International Version (NIV) Matthew 23:23-24 - “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. Matthew 23 - 37,38 and 39 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’ When someone tells me that they don't go to church because of all the hypocrites I usually ask them if they think they are better than Christ because he never allowed hypocrites to keep him away from the temple.

The true Christian church has always had a remnant. A remnant is defined as a remaining, usually small part, quantity, number, or the like. A fragment or scrap. The true Christian Church has always suffered persecution in some form or fashion. Remember that of the antediluvian population of the earth in the days of Noah only eight people were saved from the flood. This was a type of the world throughout history. The early Christians were persecuted by the religious state under Herod representing Judaism and Rome representing Paganism. The Romans regularly crucified them or fed them to the lions as entertainment, Once the Emperor Constantine supposedly converted to Christianity the established Roman Church became the new tormentor of the Christian remnant in the form of the Catholic church. This is not a slam on the Catholic church and Catholics today. I am convinced that many Catholics are part of this true remnant church. The remnant Christian church actually follows the true teachings of Christ. This remnant is in hiding all over the world in places like China and the Middle East. It is even being persecuted in this country in a milder form. I believe though that the day is coming in this country when Christians will suffer real persecution. Obama didn't tell you this but this remnant has also been a force for ending the slave trade, slavery, segregation and other evils throughout history.

I am an evil man but I know history and I know the truth. People are constantly confusing political Christianity with Christ's true remnant. The Dark Ages were called that for good reason. It was a period of evil. If you are a follower of Christ you walk in the light. When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Man Of Steel / Scott Walker

Well, it is official. As of this moment I am a Scott Walker man. I was on the fence with him as a prospective presidential candidate. In my mind he was right on all the major issues except illegal immigration. I badly wanted to support him because this is a man who gets it. He is Reaganesque in that he knows how to wipe up the floor with liberals. He took on big labor and crushed the Union bullies by winning several elections and recall attempts He is smart and unlike most Republicans has a spine made of titanium. Patriotic Americans are begging and screaming for the leadership of a Scott Walker. Like Reagan I believe that his leadership and courage will even appeal to those Democrats that down deep know our country is headed off the cliff right now.
So what happened to change my mind about Scott Walker? A while back I read a quote by Walker that he was in favor of amnesty for illegals. I try not to be a one issue voter but the problem of illegal immigration is rapidly destroying this country. In my opinion illegal immigration is tied in closely with the other issues that are also destroying our country. Our deficit, which illegals add greatly to because we have to build prisons and provide food and substance for illegal prisoners. We have to build new schools and the liberals insist that we feed all students on our dime, the real American taxpayer. Our medical system is overburdened with illegal patients who cannot pay and the illegals are bringing diseases back that were once eradicated like measles and tuberculosis. Besides our deficit Islamic extremism is also one of the greatest problems that we face and we have no clue who is coming into our country. Another problem that we face is that because of political correctness we are in a gigantic culture war and the patriotic people who love this country are losing that war. Illegals are exploited in that war by the Democratic Party. Last but not least Obama's lawless action that legalized millions of illegal aliens just made it vastly more difficult for a Republican to ever win the presidency.
I took an oath a while back that I will not vote for any candidate that is in favor of open borders. Secure the borders first and then decide what to do with those illegals afterward that will be able to positively contribute to our future as a country. if you line up on the other issues that are important to me and most Americans I will vote for you. Scott Walker did that tonight. I just heard Walker interviewed by Brett Baier. In the interview he was asked his opinion on illegal immigration. Without equivocation he said that our borders must be secured and he is against amnesty. Baier asked him about his earlier statement saying that he was in favor of amnesty. I liked his answer because it was direct and to the point without the typical politicians spin. He denied that he had made that statement and Walker said that was the reporter 's opinion and not his. In conclusion I am tired of hearing about how strong of a candidate that Hillary is. Can a Jeb Bush, or a Lindsey Graham beat her? Probably not. But the bottom line for the Republican Party is this. If they can't beat Hillary with the tons of baggage that she is dragging around and a record of achievement that equals a big zero, then they need to close up shop and go home.

The Evil And Foolish White Man

John Wayne
Robert Young as Jim Anderson in Father Knows Best
Hugh Beaumont as Ward Cleaver in Leave It To Beaver

A few days ago I watched a segment on Fox News about the new Frozen movie. Supposedly the movie depicts men as foolish and evil. Hollywood has been doing this for years now. I will go out on a limb here and say specifically that it is white men that are depicted in a negative light. I know I will be called racist for saying this in our politically correct environment but it is a subject that has been ignored for far too long. When I was a kid I was aware even then that America was a predominately white patriarchal society. White men were portrayed as strong, macho, intelligent, virtuous and wise on television and at the movies. Black men were depicted in the movies as silly, docile, lazy  stupid or easily frightened men like the famous black character actor of the 1930's named Lincoln Perry whose stage name was Steppin Fetchit. Perry wasn't too stupid though, he was the first black actor to become a millionaire.  Hispanic men, and Asian men were also depicted in stereotypical fashion. Hispanics were the happy go lucky farm hand on the Real McCoy's or a bandito that was always smiling an evil smile. Of course there were Asian characters like Charlie Chan. Unless it was something like Amos and Andy or bit parts you never saw black men on television. All of this had a huge negative impact. Not only on black society but society as a whole. It reinforced the negative stereotypes that whites had for people of color. I am sure that in turn it lowered their self esteem and expectations.

. Over time we have seen a huge turnaround in the way Hollywood depicts men of color. Strong male stars like Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Ken Jeong, Mario Lopez and many others. This is a positive change. Over the last twenty years or so however we have seen Hollywood and the television industry more and more depict the white male as evil and foolish. Since Hollywood is dominated by the political left and has been for years I am sensitive to the subtle ways that they manage to incorporate their ideas into their movies like climate change, Gay Rights, pro-choice, anti-war, anti-military, anti-Republican, anti-Conservative, anti-Christian, anti-gun, and anti-white male agenda. Every comedy has it's obligatory male homosexual. White males are shown in a good light if they are Gay. In an age when most Muslims are not terrorists but most terrorists are Muslim Hollywood still depicts terrorists in the movies as white skinheads, Eastern European, or Russian. In the book Sum of All Fears the terrorists were Muslim but in the movie the terrorists were white supremacists. In Air Force One they were Russian and in White House Down the terrorists are white. These are just a few movies I could list that the terrorists are white. Yes I realize that there are white Muslims but for the most part it has been Middle Eastern men or men of color who have committed terrorist acts. Especially in this country.

The bottom line is that it is safe to single out the white male because there will be no repercussions. In commercials white males are shown primarily as foolish and evil. Like in the State Farm Insurance commercial that shows the old white man dangling a dollar bill in front of an Asian woman while the good guy is the black male State Farm agent who saves the white lady a bundle of money on her insurance. All white males are not depicted as evil or foolish but it is happening more and more. Part of this is driven by the radical feminist agenda. That agenda over time is also emasculating the white male. If depicting people of color for so many years in a negative manner had such a negative impact then why do we expect that turning the tables on white males is going to be any different? However there is no doubt in my mind that this is the goal.
