THE FOX NEWS HYSTERIA

When I was a child my grandfather hated the old Nashville Banner newspaper because it leaned Republican. He liked the Nashville Tennessean because it was Democratic. Granddaddy was a life-long Democrat, as most White people in the South were at that time. He was also a staunch union member and a railroad man. Granddaddy worked for years in the Tennessee Central Railroad blacksmith shop in Nashville. Before the advent of the Democrat Party there were Federalist and Anti-Federalist newspapers. Then there were Whig and Democrat newspapers. After the Civil War there were Democrat and Republican newspapers. Today the media is dominated by the Democrats. Most major newspapers along with news magazines, like Time and Newsweek are Democrat. Television networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, MSNBC are also Democrat and the list goes on and on. The only thing that Conservatives can turn to is talk radio for the most part, or for their news is Breitbart, the Daily Caller, World Net Daily or the Drudge Report among others. Then there is Fox News which is basically mainstream Republican in it's editorial position.

Since the change in ownership it seems to be moving farther left, however There are some good Conservative opinion shows like Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin, Tucker Carlson, and others. They would be the first to tell you that they are biased and partisan in their opinions. Their reporting is very factual and they do good investigative reporting. For example when the story broke on the mainstream news about the death of Trayvon Martin they tried to push the narrative that Trayvon was this innocent young child walking through an apartment complex after buying Skittles at a convenience store. Then he was hunted and stalked by an overzealous blood thirsty, "White Hispanic", George Zimmerman. A wannabe police officer. Trayvon was shot for no other reason than the crime of "walking while Black". Sean Hannity and others on Fox News would eventually, through investigative reporting, paint a more realistic picture of what really happened. Trayvon Martin was not the image of the innocent teenager that was pushed by the mainstream media. Zimmerman was no angel but the subsequent legal investigation revealed that the killing of Martin by Zimmerman was an act of self defense.

Mainstream news reporting on the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson Missouri helped whip up racial unrest, rioting, and led to the formation of the Black Lives Matter movement. All based on the narrative pushed by the mainstream media. That Michael Brown was the "gentle giant" gunned down by a racist White cop, unarmed, and with his hands in the air pleading with the cop not to shoot. Fox News was actually doing the work that the mainstream media refused to do. They were providing the truth. Michael Brown was not a gentle giant but a thuggish three hundred pound bully. The grand jury and Obama's own justice department verified that although Brown was unarmed he had fought Officer Wilson for control of his firearm while Wilson was still seated in his patrol car. The gun had even discharged during the fight for control of the gun. Autopsy and witness reports confirmed that Brown was bull rushing Officer Wilson when he was shot and he was not trying to surrender. As a result of false reporting by the mainstream media, race baiting by the Obama administration and people like Al Sharpton, racial tensions have skyrocketed, innocent police officers have died, innocent people have been injured, killed, and property destroyed. The law enforcement career of an innocent and brave officer was destroyed, along with that of his new wife, who was also a police officer. They have had to move away from Ferguson and virtually go into hiding in order to avoid hateful retribution over the Michael Brown killing.

The recent incident in Washington D.C. involving White male students from Covington High School in Kentucky is another good example of fake news coming from the mainstream media. They frantically reported for days that these young boys were mocking an American Indian Vietnam Veteran. Fox News along with other news services were finally able to prove that these boys were totally innocent and were not mocking anyone. The mainstream media has walked their story back since then and the boys were cleared of any wrongdoing. If anything they were the most mature acting people there. The so-called American Indian Vietnam veteran was not a Vietnam veteran at all and has had a checkered past.

Conservatives have had few options until fairly recently. Fox News did not come on the air until 1996 and I date conservative talk radio to the advent of Rush Limbaugh in 1988. I began listening to talk radio when it was in it's infancy. While stationed at Kingsley Field Oregon in 1968 I used to listen to a talk show called Night Caps on AM radio. I could pick it up late at night out of Salt Lake City Utah. During this time Debbie had flown home to see her family over the Christmas holidays. We only had one television station. It signed off the air around 11:00 PM. This was long before computers and smart phones so your late night entertainment options were very limited. People called in and basically talked about innocuous subjects. On this talk show there was no political talk or anything controversial. During the seventies and eighties radio talk shows became more popular. These talk shows were much more political. The hosts invited your opinions but the they ranged from liberal to moderate in their own opinions. They usually had many guests on their shows. My favorite was Teddy Bart locally who made an attempt to present both sides of an argument even though he was liberal himself.

In 1980 WLAC, which call letters stood for it's original sponsor, the Life and Casualty Insurance Company, went over from a music format to a political talk show format. I was overjoyed by the change but there was no one really addressing my point of view on a consistent basis. By 1989 I was a Reagan Conservative and talk radio was much too liberal for me by then. One day I was riding toward Murfreesboro on the Old Nashville Pike. I tuned in to WLAC and heard Rush Limbaugh for the first time. About the time I reached the battlefield I was ecstatic and cheering. I had never before heard anyone like him before. He was saying what I was usually thinking and on top of that he was hilarious. Just like the derangement syndrome that Trump has had to endure Rush Limbaugh has endured the same treatment since he first came on the air in 1988. One of the accusations against him, like Trump, is that he is a racist. I have listened to Rush for years and I have heard nothing that leads me to believe he is a racist. Ninety-nine percent of the lefts criticism of him is totally off base. I laugh at people who take him so seriously when I know he is joking. What I like about Limbaugh is that he is a political genius when it comes to correctly stating the conservative philosophy and applying it to current news events. He also knows the political left like a book and doesn't give a flip what they think about him. The Rush Limbaugh Show has been a refuge for me during years that I had to endure the presidencies of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Rush spawned what is today called Conservative talk radio. People that have followed him like Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levine, Michael Savage, and Phil Valentine, just to name a very few owe their success to Rush Limbaugh.

Conservative talk radio has had a huge impact on the political landscape because it gives conservatives an alternative to the constant barrage of the leftist political propaganda from the mainstream media and far too many Americans are still influenced by the mainstream media. Conservatives call these people low information voters. I have found that Conservative talk radio is a good news source. Especially on the important issues that the mainstream media ignores, under reports, or spins to favor the Democrats. Like what is really happening on our southern border and the harm done to America by illegal immigration. News regarding the real state of our economy, taxes, government waste and overspending. Foreign policy issues that are being ignored or tainted by the mainstream media. National news events. Where conservative talk radio shines is discussing the many Democratic scandals that the mainstream media ignores or distorts. Troopergate, Whitewater, Monica Lewinsky, Juanita Broadrick, Katheen Willey, the White House Travel Office, Pardongate, Benghazi, Fast & Furious, the IRS scandal, Hillary's email scandal, the Clinton Foundation, and the so-called Trump Russian collusion and the list goes on and on.

There is a special place in hell for the mainstream media and the damage that they have done to this country in my opinion. In addition to the damage by the mainstream media you have to factor in Hollywood. It is also influential in molding and shaping opinion. It usually glorifies the homosexual lifestyle, the drug culture, the radical feminist agenda, and takes a generally Democratic Party point of view. Christians are generally portrayed as religious bigots or wacko's Republicans or Conservatives are depicted as bigoted, and unstable. It is safe to depict the white male in a bad light. For example in an age when most Muslims are not terrorists but most terrorists are Muslim and usually of middle eastern descent, most movies still depict terrorists as White males. For example Air Force One, White House Down and Sum of All Fears. Tom Clancy's terrorists in the book Sum of All Fears were Middle Eastern terrorists. In the movie they were changed to a White supremacist group of White males. Of course prime-time television in the form of sit-coms and drama also pushes the same left-wing agenda.

The frenzy and hysteria over Fox News from the left cracks me up. The left is allowed to have virtually the entire mainstream news media, Hollywood, prime time television, and the print media but the establishment Republicans are not allowed to push their viewpoint. In my view Fox bends over backwards to be fair. It regularly has both the Liberal and Conservative opinion represented. It's news reporting truly is fair and balanced although even Fox is not conservative enough for me. I swore off prime time news completely after the re-election of Obama in 2012 because I just couldn't take it anymore. Only since the election of Trump have I been watching Fox News and I do not watch it nearly as much as I used to. Fox consistently has the highest ratings of any other network and I got to admit it, they have the hottest women. So in closing I will tell all of you leftists out there to lighten up. Your news networks, academia, Hollywood and prime time television still reaches vastly more people than our side. So, why are you so scared? Could it be that you might encounter the truth? Oh no, I forgot. You can't handle the truth!

  1. Great report! You have omitted, however, the first and greatest Conservative voice in America: William F. Buckley and his PBS show, FIRING LINE. He was a mentor to Rush Limbaugh.
Some of the best on radio are Michael Medved, Bill Cunningham (began in Cincinnati) and Dennis Prater
