UNDER GOD

John Locke

Recently I heard that His Majesty King Barack the 1st left the words "under God" out of his rendition of the Gettysburg Address that he was reading for a Ken Burns documentary. We shouldn't be surprised because leftist elitists do not want us to be reminded that real power rests with the people. We are hearing everyday of where the phrase "under God" is being omitted from the Pledge of Allegiance and I heard that the Air Force Academy has omitted the phrase "so help me God" from the oath taken by newly commissioned officers. This goes beyond just the reluctance to offend atheists to something far more insidious and sinister. The "Framers" drew extensively from the ideas of John Locke. Locke believed that atheists had no legitimate place in a "social contract" between man and government. Although he was a Christian and preferred Christianity over other religions he realized that only a person who believed in a higher power would understand the concept of natural rights. In a state of nature man was born free but to avoid chaos man must surrender some of his rights in order to secure most of his rights. The rights that man possessed were inalienable rights or those rights that were given by God and could only be taken away by God.

Government was considered a necessary evil. Man entered into a social contract with government and if government usurped man's inalienable rights and established a state of tyranny then man was justified in altering or abolishing that form of government and start all over again. The left has worked overtime to establish the supremacy of government rather than the supremacy of God who in turn empowers the people over government. In a state of nature government is way way down on the list. This is another reason that our public schools do not teach this concept to our children because Locke, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are a threat to the left's hold on power. Their power lies in our ignorance. Words are powerful and the word God not only offends atheists but it is a constant reminder to the left how insignificant they really are.
